Purpose
- To explore participants’ ideas on the issue;
- To get started with the topic.
Participants
2 to many. Can be difficult with over 25-30 participants.
Time
Quick, even 5-10 minutes; or longer if needed.
Materials
- Flip-chart papers;
- Markers.
Process
I) Write these questions on the flip chart:
- “How can you turn confrontation into cooperation?
- How can you transform conflicts to be fought into problems to be solved?”
II) Turn the questions to participants. Stimulate participation, quantity is more important than quality. Write all emerging ideas on the flip chart. If necessary use more papers and tie written papers on the wall in order to be visible to everybody.
III) Stimulate discussions between the participants’ different views.
Note
This is a brainstorming session; as a facilitator you should limit yourself in exercising judgement on ideas expressed by participants. Every idea is welcome and must be written down.
